Top 10 jobs recruiting without a diploma in Singapore
No diploma, or looking for a career change? Some people aren’t suited to academic studies, others never had the chance to finish their education. Fortunately, many jobs are easy to get into. Need a job quickly? Here are 10 jobs that recruit all year round and require no diploma.
Sales and Customer Contact
Store salesperson
Many stores hire salespeople, especially to handle the rush of customers before peak seasons. Tasks range from welcoming customers and working the till to restocking shelves. The advantage: you can work in the field that interests you most (decor, food, clothing, toys and more).
Telemarketer
A telemarketer calls potential customers to sell them the company’s products or services. Your arguments and the way you speak to customers make all the difference. As in any sales job, clear speech and perseverance are key to convincing the people you call.
Logistics, Food and Home Services
Order picker
Order pickers work in warehouses, where they collect goods, pack them and take them to the shipping area. The job requires energy and good physical fitness, as hours are often staggered and many pickers work in shifts.
Restaurant worker
Much like a kitchen assistant, a restaurant worker takes on many roles: preparing food, plating dishes, washing up, cleaning and sometimes handling payments. The job is open to people without experience or a diploma.
Housekeeper
Housekeepers usually work for private clients, either on a regular basis (twice a week, for example) or occasionally (looking after the house while the owners are away). Common tasks include cleaning and ironing, as well as grocery shopping and sometimes cooking.
Transport, Security and Public Spaces
Driver
Delivery driver, ambulance driver, truck driver: the transport sector hires many drivers without a diploma or experience. A valid driving licence is the main requirement, and some roles need an additional vocational licence.
Security guard
The security sector also recruits without a diploma, but you need a clean criminal record and a security officer licence. The main tasks are access control and patrols.
Construction worker
Also known as a general labourer, a construction worker is a real jack-of-all-trades on building sites, handling materials, organising the site and cleaning up. No diploma is needed to get started.
Urban cleaner
Urban cleaners keep public spaces such as pavements, roads and parks spotless. They collect green waste, bulky items left on the street and household waste.
Receptionist
Store lobbies, trade shows, exhibitions, tourist offices: receptionists are hired in many places. Their main task is to welcome, inform and guide visitors as soon as they arrive. As the face of the organisation, you need to enjoy meeting people and communicate well.
